Skiing vs. Snowboarding – A Clash of Cultures

There are many great things about winter, but for many nothing beats the exhilaration and sheer fun of winter sports. Winter activities like skiing and snowboarding are a great way to enjoy the brisk cold weather and get some great exercise.

Skiing, both downhill and cross country, has been a big part of the winter experience for many years, but the sport of snowboarding has been steadily gaining ground as well. While many ski resorts were initially skeptical of the snowboarders invading their ski runs, many of those same resort owners have now embraced snowboarders, providing them with their own separate runs and even building snowboard parks where the most daring snowboarders can try out their newest tricks.

Competition has also made its way into the snowboarding arena, with plenty of fun challenges for snowboarders to enjoy. For years snowboarders were shut out of high level competition, but that is changing in a big way. In fact the new high profile of snowboarding as a sport has caused many skiers to reexamine their opinion of this great wintertime activity. It seems that snowboarders and skiers can coexist peacefully, whether on the slopes at the ski resort or in the competitive arena.
